Fergie Olver was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, in the mid-1940s. As a former game show host and sports coach, he is, just like mom, best known for organizing a children’s game show.
Childhood and education
Fergie’s childhood took place in Moose Jaw, where he was raised by his parents – he began watching television at the age of five, mostly game shows with his mother, who dreamed of participating in one.
He graduated from Moose Jaw High School, where he also played tennis; after that, he didn’t return to college.
Career as a television presenter and other companies
Fergie started his career in 1960 when he started baseball as an underdog – he started in the Junior League, then switched to the Western Baseball League semi-professional with Saskatoon and then to Medical Hat. He continued to play in the Western Major League of Baseball, and in the late sixties he was on television.
Fergie got his first job in television in 1969 when he was part of the CFCF-TV network in Montreal before moving to CFTO-TV Toronto. Because he didn’t want to give up baseball altogether, he became a television anchor for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team in 1981 and stayed with them for the next 15 years.
